The Gujarat cancer society is all set to spread awareness about cancer by conducting programs at regular interval. The cancer care and research Centre is recognized as the State Cancer Institute by the Government of India Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The Gujarat cancer society and research institute combined in 1972 known as Gujarat Cancer & Research Institute (GCRI). The government of Gujarat wants to extend the cancer care and research, that’s why they asked the Gujarat cancer society to developing a medical college. The Gujarat cancer society takes that opportunity and develops a general hospital and medical college in Ahmedabad. Currently, the hospital features all the latest type of equipments for cancer treatment and approx. 750 beds for patients. This hospital and medical college is spread around 25 acres on Naroda road.

Our Journey

The Gujarat Cancer Society was established in 1961 by Shri Mehdi Navaz. It started with just 5000 rs donation.

The founder of the cancer society felt a severe need for developing modern facilities for poor cancer patients. The M.P.Shah Trust of London donated 55000 sterling pound to achieve the founder’s dream. And With the support of the Government of Gujarat, the M.P. Shah Cancer hospital was commissioned in the year 1965.

The Government of India also support this society and announce that 175% tax exemption on all donations to The Gujarat Cancer Society. This tax exemption helped a lot in the fast development of The M.P. Shah Cancer Hospital.

Vision

“The vision of The Gujarat cancer society is to prevent/reduce the chances of cancer through conducting Cancer awareness program, help poor cancer affected people and provide the best cancer services to society.”

Mission

  • To help the needy by providing medical aid and medicines at the affordable rate.
  • To identify early detection through health check-up programs.
  • To spread public awareness that cancer is preventable and curable by conducting cancer awareness exhibitions and cancer detection camps.
  • To support cancer education and research.
  • To offer palliative care at home and hospice to the terminally ill cancer patient.

How is your Money Spent?

The amount donated is spent in the below mentioned areas:

  1. To Promote Medical Education & Research.
  2. Develop a hospital for cancer affected people.
  3. Conduct cancer awareness seminars or seminars for checkup related to cancer.
  4. Help financially poor cancer affected people.

Activities

  • Cancer Awareness Programs

    Every year The Gujarat cancer society conducts a program on cancer awareness and detection camp on 7th November at Suubbu Yuva Kendra, a slum area of Noble Nagar, Ahmedabad.

    How a person can early detect cancer, what are the warning signs, preventive measures to be considered for breast, cervix and oral cancers, etc are some of the crucial topics covered in the program.

  • Poor Patients Relief Scheme

    This scheme is especially for a poor patient who can’t afford the cost of cancer treatment. Under this scheme many patients approx. 826 were supported to cover up by cash.
