Since its inception in June 2000, Akshaya Patra Foundation endeavors hard to eliminate classroom hunger by offering Mid-day Meal schemes in the government schools and government-aided schools. Located in Bengaluru, Karnataka it serves mouthwatering mid-day meals to 1,500 children in a day. After partnering for several years with the Government of India, philanthropic donors, and various State Government, the organization today turns out to be the world’s largest Mid-Day Meal Programme. Good management, innovative technology, and smart engineering to deliver nutritious and providing hygienic school meals are its key differentiators.

How is your money spent?

Like They said before, what they are doing is for the children. Every donation is diligently spent for the food that is served directly or indirectly. The organization upholds maximum transparency in funds utilization; i.e., 92% of the total cost is used in the program cost and the remaining 8% towards program management cost.

Our Journey

Headquartered in Bengaluru, India, Akshaya Patra Foundation is a non-profit organization that aims to eliminate classroom hunger by offering Mid-Day Meal Scheme in the government schools and government-aided schools. It has been more than a decade since the organization provides fresh and nutritious meals to children on every single school day. Till now they have been serving 1.7 million children from 14,702 schools across 12 states in India.

Akshaya Patra also aims at countering malnutrition and supporting the right to education of socio-economically disadvantaged children. The government of India and various State Governments, persistent support from corporates, individual donors, and such other helping hands have made the program a smooth sail.

In 2003, when the Ministry of Human Resource Development- Department of School Health and Education finally extended their support to the initiative, the organization was already found reaching out to 23,000 children. In the year 2007, the Bangalore based organization decided to commence its activities in Gujarat, and the inauguration was done by Hon’ble Chief Minister of Gujarat, Shri Narendra Modi.
